How to Fix a PS4 Controller that won't Charge?

There can be various reasons why your PS4 controller is not charging. The reasons that can lead to this problem are dust, and cable issues, which may indicate that you need to buy a new controller. Before you go ahead and decide to replace your PS4 controller, you must perform some troubleshooting steps to check if your device is charging again.

Below, we have mentioned 5 different troubleshooting solutions that you can apply to fix the PS4 controller not charging problem.

1) Connect Your PS4 to Another Device to Charge It

Sometimes it becomes difficult to charge your controller directly from the PS4. Therefore, you must test the controller before you connect it to another device. If you are not able to charge it from another source, then you will realize that PS4 is not the cause of your problem.

2) Take Out Your Charging Cable

There is a chance that your controller is not the culprit but the charging cable you are using is faulty. In order to fix this issue, you must use a different cable. You can use the same cable to charge another wire.

Check whether there are any physical signs of damage such as build-up grime or fraying on the cord.

3) Check the Charging Port of your Controller

The dirt accumulated on your charging port can negatively impact the power flow, which may stop your controller from charging. You can easily fix this problem by using compressed air or a wooden toothpick.

4) Reset and Re-Pair Your Controller

Go to the Devices section on the Settings menu of your PS4. After that, choose All Devices from the list. Now, go to your controller and press something in a small hole located at the underside of your controller and then hold it for a few seconds.

Now, sync your controller again to your PS4. The re-syncing can be done using the PS button. If you are encountering issues while pairing your PS4 controller, then you must read out the guide where the connection process is explained properly.

5) Perform a Power Cycle on your PS4

You must turn off your controller and PS4 console. After that, disconnect the power wire of your PS4 from the electrical outlet. Wait for at least 10 minutes and then hold down your power button for 30 seconds.

This will help you drain out the leftover energy. Now, reconnect your console and controller and check whether the issue is resolved. In case your controller does not charge even after performing the troubleshooting steps mentioned above, then you must check if it is in warranty or not.
