How to Install August Smart Lock 3rd Generation?

Step 1: Setup Your Existing Deadbolt

When you purchase August Smart Lock from a local store, you will get the supplied adhesive strips. These strips help to hold the keyed side of the lock into place.

Step 2: Remove the Existing Thumbturn

Unscrew and remove down all the screws from your existing deadbolt thumbturn. If in case, there is an extra back plate behind, remove that as well. But, make sure that you unlock your deadbolt before removing the thumbturn completely.

Step 3: Prepare the Mounting Plate

The included mounting plate consist of two adjustable screw-holes which can be repositioned as required. Take out the screws from the existing thumbturn and insert them at the front of the mounting plate.

Step 4: Properly Fix the Mounting Plate

Secure the mounting plate against the door and tighten the screws using both of your hands.

Step 5: Choose Any Required Adapter  

Checkout the Standard Deadbolt Compatibility Chart. Select any adapter after checking from the Compatibility Chart.

Note: If your lock brand is not present in the chart, slide each adapter onto the tailpiece in order to find the right fit. The correct adapter will have nubs that are pointing up.

Step 6: Connect the Right Adapter

Position the adapter correctly over the tailpiece. If the triangle shaped nubs are facing up, then you are using the right adapter.

Step 7: Unlock the Thumbturn

Rotate the position of thumb turn all the way to unlock it. In order to rotate it, you have to apply some moderate level of force. While the direction of force you turn depends on side of the door your deadbolt is on.

Step 8: Open the Wing Latches

Open up both the side wing latches and prepare it for mounting.

Step 9: Fix the August Smart Lock

Once you pull out both side wing latches to prepare it for mounting, you can start fixing the lock. Before fixing the August Smart Lock on the door, make sure the thumbturn is present in the correct unlocked position.

Further, slide the August Smart Lock over the tailpiece and position it on the mounting plate. Remember that the back of the lock is flush with the door. Now secure the August Smart Lock by clamping down both side wing latches to the mounting plate. This covers the half process to install August smart lock 3rd generation.

Step 10: Take Off the Faceplate

Slide the top of the front face in the upward direction and remove the compartment cover over the battery.

Step 11: Remove the Battery Tab

You have already removed the compartment cover of the battery. Now by holding the batteries in place, remove the clear plastic battery isolation tab present at the left side. Please make sure that the battery is properly placed in its assigned slot or compartment. Note: Do not pull the longer gray tab or else it will remove all of the batteries from the place.

Step 12: Replace the Faceplate

In the next step, place the faceplate back over the August Smart Lock covering the batteries until it clicks into right place.

Step 13: Install DoorSense

Step 14: Complete the Installation and Setup Using August Home App

Now, complete the setup and quickly install August smart lock 3rd generation. Now, simply download and install the August Home app. Select the option "Get Started" shown at the home screen.
