LED light strips are used for home decoration and a lot of people use them for outdoor lighting. The use of these lights saves space. Sometimes people feel the need of changing the location of these strips.
If you don't know how to remove and restick LED light strips, then you have come to the right place. Here, you will read all the necessary steps that you need to perform to remove and place your LED light strips elsewhere.
You can easily remove and restick LED light strips on another location by applying 4 easy steps. Without further ado, let's get started with the process.
You first need to unplug the device before you remove and restick it elsewhere. Whenever you unplug the light strip, you need to heat the adhesive as this heat will help you see the end of the strip. These LED lights are low voltage lights which means you won't get an electric shock by unplugging them.
It is recommended to heat the adhesive before taking off the light strip. If you don't do so, then there is a risk of removing the point while pulling the strip, which can further damage the wall.
Use a hairdryer for this purpose and concentrate the heat where it is required the most. Make sure the adhesive softens without creating any damage. Heat the strip using the dryer until it gets easier to take it off.
Start removing the strip from one of the ends. Take an easily approachable corner and start taking off the strip using a thin and flat object. You can either use a coin, butter knife or a credit card. Make sure you don't chip the paint while using these objects.
After lifting the corner of the strip, it is easier to remove the entire cord till you reach the other end. This gently lifts the entire strip without scrapping the surface of the wall. If you are not able to remove the strip and hold the hairdryer at the same time, then you can take the help of another person.
Let the other person hold the dryer while you take off the strip.
After you take off your LED light strip, then you will see some sticky residue on the wall. This does not mean that your wall is damaged. You just need to clean the wall and get rid of all the stickiness. If you only see slight residue on the wall, then you can get rid of it just by using your thumb.
You can also rub the adhesive in a circular motion. This will pick up sticky residue from the wall. If there is a lot of sticky residues, then take a sponge and clean the wall with soap and water.
To reuse the strips, you need to apply the adhesive again. You can either use Double-sided mounted tape or large command strips. This will help you re-stick the LED light strip where you want to place it.
