How to Set up Package Detection on a Ring Video Doorbell?

If you are a Ring video doorbell user, then we have some good news for you. The ring has finally introduced package detection for its video doorbells. This feature has been missing for a very long time. Now, we are entering that time of the year when people receive the most packages, having a doorbell can actually let you know if the package has been dropped off on your porch or not.

However, package detection is only available on two Ring video doorbells. Moreover, setting up this feature is very easy. In this guide, you are going to learn how to set up package detection. Plus, you will get to know on which doorbell the feature is available.

How can I Set up Package Detection on Ring Video Doorbell?

Sadly, package detection is only available on 2 Ring video doorbell models. The first one is Ring Video Doorbell Pro 2 and the other one is Ring Video Doorbell Gen 2. The ring has mentioned that the feature will roll out by November 15. In case you don't see it, then you need to check your app.

Steps to set up package detection on Ring Video Doorbell

Step 1: Once you are done installing your video doorbell, launch your Ring app. All you have to do is to press the gear icon given at the upper-right corner of your thumbnail image for video doorbell.

Step 2: Choose motion detection settings from the grid given at the lower half of your screen.

Step 3: Tap on Smart Alerts. Go to the next page and then enable Smart Alerts for person detection and other motion and if required package detection. Select the camera icon if you wish to record a video when a package is detected. Press the bell icon if you wish to get a notification if a package gets detected.

Step 4: Set customize to choose package detection zones and sensitivity.

Step 5: Select package zone. Go to the next screen and there you will see a preview of what the Ring doorbell sees. Below the package zones, select the Edit Zone to change the area where the camera will search for the packages. Just move the circles to change the shape and size of the zone. If you want, you can also change the motion zone. Select save for completing the process.

Step 6: If you are getting a lot of false package alerts, you are just required to adjust the sensitivity of the feature that is on the same screen. This will help you adjust motion sensitivity.

The setup is complete. Now, you will get an alert message from your Ring video doorbell every time you get a package. If you are using an iPhone, you will be able to see the notification on your lock screen.
