How to Transfer Data from Nintendo Switch to Switch OLED?

Many customers may want to move their account and data from their original Switch (or Switch Lite) console to the sleek new one now that the Nintendo Switch OLED is out. After all, the Switch OLED is a significant increase over prior models, so it's understandable why people would want to upgrade from older models.

The trouble is that the transfer process isn't as simple as you may think, making it difficult to get things started. However, we've got all the specifics on how to migrate your user data from one Switch to another, even if you don't have access to your old system or favorite Switch games. The following steps will show you how to transfer Nintendo Switch to Switch OLED data.

How can I Move Data from a Switch to an OLED Switch?

Step 1: To begin the transfer process, you'll need your original Switch, and the new OLED turned on. This requires both systems to be plugged in to not shut down in the middle of the transfer. (If you don't have access to the old Switch system, see the alternate option below.)

Step 2: Get to the stage where you can access the main menu on the new Switch OLED by going through the setup process. First, ensure your Switch OLED has the most recent update before beginning the transfer process.

To check, go to System Settings, which is denoted by a gear symbol on the main screen, and then scroll down to the system. Select System Update from this menu, and if an update is available, it will begin to download.

Step 3: Return to System Settings > Users > Add User > Import User Data from Another Console when the system has been updated.

Step 4: The system will then inquire whether you still have the console with the account you wish to import. Yes, that is the answer. It will then ask if you still want to use the previous console. The answer to this question will vary from person to person, but it's unlikely that you'll continue to use the older method.

In our case, we chose No. After the transfer process is complete, you'll be alerted that the data on the source system will be destroyed, which is good because everything will be available on the new OLED system. If you press Next, you'll be brought to the next screen. To begin the procedure, click transfer.

Step 5: The system will prompt you to login into the Nintendo Account of the user who will be moved at this time. When you click Sign In, you'll be given two options: Sign in with your email and password or with a QR code and a smart device. Choose whichever option you like, but keep in mind that the QR code option is the most convenient and straightforward.

To sign in to your account using the QR code method, scan the QR code with the camera on your smartphone and follow the on-screen prompts. Then enter the five-digit code to gain access to your system.

You may also sign in an old-fashioned manner by typing your email address and password. The system will indicate "X user will be transferred to this console" after you've logged in on the Switch OLED. So please get the console where X user will be transferred readily."

Once you've selected Next, you'll be able to go on to the source Switch. At this time, keep your Switch OLED turned on and plugged in.

Step 6: Make sure the source Switch is turned on and go to System Settings from the main menu. Then go to Users > User Data Transfer > Next > Next > Source Console. The original Switch is the source console, while. The Switch OLED is the target console. After that, choose the user you want to transfer and click Continue.

Step 7: The Transferring Users screen should show both your original Switch and the OLED model on the left and right, respectively. If the OLED model does not appear, double-check that it is plugged in and that it is also displayed on the Transferring Users screen.

Next, select the blue Transfer button on the bottom of the original Switch system once both appear. This procedure may take some time depending on how much data is being transmitted, so give it some time and check it occasionally.

Keep in mind that this will move your account and save data from the old system to the new one.

Step 8: When the transfer is finished, click the Finish button to complete the operation. If you don't have any other accounts to transfer, you can click Skip on the Switch OLED when it asks if you want to add additional users. Follow the directions until the system asks you to click the Home button, and you'll be good to go.

Step 9: Moving your microSD card from the old Switch to the new Switch OLED is an optional final step. Because the microSD card destroys all game save data when inserted into the new system, we recommend doing this at the end of the process.

But don't worry, because you just completed the transfer process, your savings will already be on your machine. In addition, most saved data is saved in the cloud (at least for Nintendo Switch Online subscribers).

You'll be able to download all of your new software onto the new microSD card once it's been inserted. First, visit the eShop and click your user's icon in the top right corner. Then, click Redownload from here to manually choose everything you want to start downloading.
