How to Turn on End-to-end Encryption on a Ring Video Doorbell?

Ring doorbells are the most popular and reliable doorbell and home security products available in the market today. However, some privacy groups have raised privacy concerns about the policies of the company regarding video sharing.

Ring owners can decide whether they wish to agree to the requests made by the police through the Ring app. A source mentioned that Ring revealed a video to law enforcement without telling the Ring owners about it.

If you are an owner of a Ring camera and not comfortable with the company sharing your video without your knowledge, then you don't need to go to the market and buy a new camera. You can easily resolve this issue by turning on end-to-end encryption in your Ring app.

How to Turn on End-to-end Encryption in the Ring App?

Before you go ahead and enable end-to-end encryption, you need to keep two things in mind. The first thing is that when you turn on this feature, it will deactivate some features like the ability to see live video on an Alexa-enabled smart display and Fire TV.

Below are some of the features that you may lose.

  • Event Timeline
  • Shared video
  • Shared users
  • Pre-roll
  • Motion verification
  • People only mode
  • Rich notifications
  • Virtual security guard
  • Snapshot capture

After that, you need to make sure that your Ring device supports end-to-end encryption. None of the battery-powered video doorbell of Ring supports end-to-end encryption.

How should I Turn on End-to-End Encryption on a Ring Doorbell?

Step 1: Launch the Ring app on your smartphone and then choose the menu button given at the upper left corner.

Step 2: Go to the drop-down menu and then select the control center. Now, you are going to view the options for Public Safety, Video management, Authorized client devices, Account verification, and Account Management.

Step 3: Go down and choose video encryption.

Step 4: Now, a menu will appear before you. Select Advanced video encryption from there. After that, you are going to see two options on the next screen i.e., SD card encryption and end-to-end encryption. The end-to-end encryption system is great for the Ring Alarm Pro system.
