How to Use Firestick on Laptop?

People always keep a laptop with them wherever they go and if you wish to watch your favorite movie or TV show on your way to your destination, then you can keep the fire stick with you as well. Just connect that Fire TV Stick to your laptop and keep it where you are receiving good wireless signal strength and enjoy unlimited entertainment.

Sadly, this can be really difficult for those who have opted for this thing. HDMI has certain limitations which state that devices other than monitors and television only have HDMI ports. There is a separate port for HDMI-in, which will import the video to your device. Unfortunately, only a few devices have an HDMI-in port.

Most of the devices are built to only accept media from an outside source or output video. Therefore, you cannot use your Fire Stick on your laptop. Nonetheless, there are two solutions that you can apply to make Fire Stick work on your laptop.

Solution 1: Use Elgato HD60S + ViewHD HDMI Splitter

In case you don't know what Elgato is, then that means you have never uploaded Let's Play on YouTube. Elgato records game plays from consoles such as Xbox 360 or PS3 and allows you to pick capture cards on your laptop.

The Elgato 60 S has software that can be used for putting the input from the USB-C cable to the screen of your laptop. You will need a monster PC in order to handle video streams. For this purpose, you will require a Windows 10 with 64-bit computer or MacBook that runs on Sierra.

You are also going to need an i5 quad-core processor and a good graphics card. Moreover, you will need a USB 3.0 port. However, your problem does not fix here.

Fire Stick sends an HDMI signal, which uses HDCP. It is an encryption protocol that you use to protect your content from illegal use. Sadly, Elgato HD 60 S is not compatible with HDCP. Nevertheless, you can somehow acquire HDCP encryption by getting a signal from a View HD HDMI splitter.

This device is used for splitting the HDMI signals. Here, we want to break the HDCP to get the basic HDMI signal. When you pass the Fire TV stick's output through a splitter, the signal first goes through Elgato.

After that, it goes through the USB 3 port of your laptop. Then, it will finally go through the recording or streaming software of Elgato. In the end, it will go to your laptop's screen.

This method has a few downsides. You will need around 500 power cables and HDMI cables for contending with. Moreover, no one has tested the configuration.

Solution 2: Get a Laptop with an HDMI-in Port

In old times, there used to be laptops with HDMI-in ports other than the laptops with HDMI-out ports for putting content on external monitors and TVs. However, it was rare to find a laptop with an HDMI-in port.

Before you go ahead with buying one, we would like to remind you that such laptops were released in 2012, i.e., 9 years ago. So, if you'll actually find one online, you will avoid using it. These laptops came into the market before the release of Windows 8. However, these laptops were really good gaming laptops during that time.
